At home treatment for panic attacks

By: Serena Loo

There are a host of treatment for panic attacks in the market to choose from, be it in the form of pharmacological therapies or as natural remedies. However, both these treatments may not be instantly made accessible to patients. In addition, they carry some side effects.

A delay in receiving help can be sometimes potentially fatal. In this article, we'll look at how you can overcome panic attacks when it happens at home.

Read this Panic Away review, and learn instantly how to stop panic attacks.

The treatment for panic attacks begins with cultivating healthy dietary habits. Usage of caffeine and drugs can not only cause emotional problems but they can also aggravate the problem. Some other home treatments for panic attacks can be exercising, meditation, etc. Breathing exercise, meditation and yoga are good, so try to set aside some time in a day to practise these exercises. Do some exercising as well which will not only keep you busy and let you not think of unnecessary things but it will also keep you physically fit and strong.

There are lots of people who use a paper bag to cope up with these problems and this method works for them too. This aids in abating the hyperventilation problem, which is directly associated to the emotional problem. It will benefit the patient the most if he or she actually believe the technique could work, rather than simply following the method. Do not overdo this technique as it might cause some other problems.

Try to relax yourself to relieve your mental tension; this is another beneficial technique for this problem. Always begin with the smaller muscles, and eventually involves the larger muscles as well. Just shaking or letting the body parts lose can be a method for relaxing the muscles. These muscle contraction and relaxation techniques have to be performed together with breathing exercises to attain the maximum benefits possible.

Control your breathing, and let the breathing be a simple process. Try to place your hands on your stomach to gauge the breathing velocity and intensity. Tell yourself and reassure yourself that things would soon be under controlled, and nothing serious is going to happen. These will help to treat these panic attacks the best.

Panic attack treatments - medicines

When we talk about panic attacks treatment, the first thing that comes into mind is pharmacological treatment (i.e. treating with medicines). Although there are non-drug ways to treat this condition, many people would right away get medical treatment because drug therapies are fast in their effects.

The symptoms of panic attacks usually last for only a couple of hours, and will usually subside or disappear altogether by the time the patient gets to the doctor's office. However, the probabilities of recurring panic attacks are quite high. If you go for medical treatment for panic disorder, then you would have the chance to resolve the condition permanently.

If the doctor suspects a heart attack had occurred, he will prescribe aspirins; the doctor may also give medications to control the blood pressure. Anti-anxiety drug treatments, such as diazepam and lorazepam, may also be prescribed after the doctor has made an evaluation. Sometimes the doctor may not prescribe panic attack treatments even if the exact problem has been diagnosed.

There will be lot of other tests conducted to evaluate and analyze whether there are any other problems or mental issues with the patient. Other mental issues could be depression or anxiety.

To date, there are a number of drugs recognised as effective panic disorder treatment. They are serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, selective serotonin and noradrenaline re-uptake inhibitors and benzodiazepine medicines. There are scientific evidences which have proved that these medicines can cure this mental disorder up to eighty to ninety percent.

Usually mental disorder such as panic disorder has accompanying physical symptoms, which can be treated effectively with medications like beta-blocker, e.g. propanolol. Benzodiazepines are generally used to give instant relief to the patient suffering from this mental disorder. Some of the benzodiazepines categories of medicines are clonazepam and lorazepam.

There are many other types of medicines out there being used as treatment for panic attacks; just make sure you do not overuse these medications to avoid serious side effects from emerging.
